Large format printing covers anything too big for an office printer: banners, posters, pull-up displays, window vinyl, signage and exhibition graphics. If you need something printed bigger than A3 and you want it sharp from two metres away, that is the work we do at Total Print in Johannesburg.
What counts as large format printing
The simple test is size. Anything wider than an A3 sheet (297 by 420mm) usually moves onto a wide-format machine, and that opens up a different set of materials and finishes than ordinary paper printing. We print across the full range: PVC and mesh banners, A2 and A1 posters, roll-up and pull-up stands, vinyl for windows and walls, floor graphics, and rigid board signage for indoor and outdoor use.
The right material matters as much as the artwork. A poster for a shop window is a different job to a banner that has to survive a Highveld summer on a construction fence. Tell us where it is going and we will match the stock, the ink and the finish to the spot, rather than printing everything the same way and hoping it lasts.
What we print large
Most large format jobs in Johannesburg fall into a handful of types, and we run all of them in house:
- Banners — PVC, mesh and fabric, hemmed and eyeleted for hanging. See our banner printing page for sizes and turnaround.
- Pull-up and roll-up stands — the portable display that travels to every expo. If you want to know where they work best, our roll-up banner guide goes through it.
- Posters — A2, A1, A0 and custom, matt or gloss. Not sure which size? Our poster sizes guide explains the difference.
- Window and wall vinyl — frosted, printed or contour-cut, applied flat or wrapped.
- Signage and display boards — foamboard, Correx and ABS for events, reception walls and site boards.
Running an event rather than a once-off print? Our event branding service pulls banners, signage and gazebos together under one brief.
Getting your artwork print-ready
Big prints are unforgiving. A logo that looks crisp on a business card can turn into a blurry mess blown up to two metres, because the file was never built for that size. The fix is straightforward: supply vector artwork or a high-resolution file, and set it up at the right scale with bleed. If that sounds like another language, send us what you have. We check every file before it goes to print and tell you if something will not hold up, rather than printing a soft image and charging you for it.
Why Total Print for large format in Johannesburg
We have been printing in Johannesburg for 16 years, and in that time the jobs have run from an R800 batch of business cards to custom work north of R800,000. Large format sits right in the middle of that range, so no job is too small or too big for us to quote.
We print large format in house, which keeps the timeline and the quality under one roof instead of being farmed out and marked up. You deal with the people doing the work. For a rush job before an expo or a launch, that matters, because there is no third party to wait on. We are based in Johannesburg and deliver across Gauteng, with nationwide delivery for the rest of the country.
If you are weighing up materials or sizes, ask. We would rather spend ten minutes getting the spec right than reprint a banner that curled in the sun.

Frequently asked questions
What is the biggest size you can print?
For banners and vinyl there is effectively no length limit — we print to roll width and join where needed. Posters and rigid boards go up to A0 and beyond on request. Tell us the finished size and we will confirm the best way to produce it.
How long does large format printing take?
Standard jobs are usually ready within a few working days, and we can move faster for deadline work. Turnaround depends on the material, the finish and the size of the run, so send the details and we will give you a real date, not a guess.
Can you print for outdoor use?
Yes. We use weather-resistant materials and UV inks for outdoor banners, site boards and signage, so they hold colour and survive sun, wind and rain. Just tell us it is going outside when you brief the job.
